Peugeot Single Speed Restomod
I had been thinking for a while about building a bike myself. With a classic Peugeot bike frame from the late ’80s, I began building a single speed. The design is inspired by the 1950s Lotus F1 cars, featuring the iconic British Racing Green with yellow accents.
From Marktplaats to the workshop
After several evenings searching on Marktplaats (a Dutch online market place), I came across a classic Peugeot sport bike that immediately caught my eye. It was for sale only 30 kilometers from my hometown at a very reasonable price. After exchanging a few messages with the seller, the deal was made, and I went to pick up the bike. Once home, the bike landed in the workshop, ready for a complete restoration. It was time to get started on the big disassembly.
The frame, which had accumulated some rust over the years, was completely blasted to restore the steel to its original glory. The brakes, which had lost their effectiveness over time, underwent a thorough cleaning in an ultrasonic bath. The chrome parts, such as the handlebars, front fork, and brake levers, were carefully polished.
In addition to restoring the original parts, I also added several new components. The wheels needed replacing, as did the drivetrain, cables, and brake pads. Each part was carefully selected to make the bike both functional and stylish, without compromising the classic character of the Peugeot. After many evenings of work and a good dose of patience, the moment arrived: my ‘new’ city bike was ready for use.
What began as a modest purchase on Marktplaats has turned into a project I’m proud of. The bike now combines the charm of a classic sports bike with the reliability of modern components, perfect for my rides through the city streets.
